Did you change career completely when going back to work after kids?

So, I'm stuck at a crossroads at the minute.  I feel I am ready to start thinking about when I return to work.  When?  I don't know.

I've thought of maybe starting an online course, but in what?  I'm not certain what I'd like to do.  I know, this is a good position to be in, sort of, because I can basically retrain in anything I want to.  As its not a necessity for me to go back to work for financial reasons or anything as such but more of a want than a need.

I feel I want to do something for me and to try and get my brain working again after looking after children and not working for the past 5 years.

So, I'm looking for a bit on inspiration from yourselves.  What did you do when you returned to work after child rearing?  Did you go back to what you did previously?  Or, did you retrain in something that you loved doing?

I would love to hear from you all!

I don't just want a job, I want a career!

  1. I saw this post via Mom n Blogs and thought I would take a look because I did change careers after having children so hopefully I can give you a little inspiration. I worked through having my 1st two children but knew it wasn't a job that I loved. I decided to go back to school and become a nurse. This was a huge change because I was in the business field and had a bachelor degree in Marketing. It was a big change and scary all at the same time. How would I do this with a family? How would we do it financially...etc, etc. At first I did it slow...taking one prerequisite at a time while still working full time. I had another child while I was doing this and after he was born I was able to quit working and focus on school full time. It was really hard but I did it and I LOVE what I am doing. I always tell people that if you have a dream and have the support to do it then go for it!! You will never regret it. I work part time and have 4 lovely boys at home and I feel like I have plenty of time with them. It's a great balance. Good luck!!
