Do you get an embarassing gas/fart problem during your period?

I know, total rediculously embarassing red faced post right?  Not very lady like at all to talk about such a subject. 

This is a problem many of us suffer though, so much so that I thought I'd research it a little as I needed reassurance that I was not alone.

Around the time of month of the dreaded period monster I seem to develop a bad case of wind (slightly blushing up as I admit to this).  I thought, this only happened to me and I must just have a real bad gas problem, much to my husbands disgust, I classed myself as a classless fart machine.  I felt rather embarassed each month to say the least, but I just couldn't help myself.

So I took my research to womens internet forum sites and found questions like:

Why do I get gas before my period?
Gas and constipation during period
Horrific gas during period
Farting during my period

I was so relieved to find that I was definately not alone with my little gas problem, there are plenty of other women out there in the same boat, would be a very smelly one at that!

So, the answer to why this occurs?  I guess its mainly caused by the bloating we get around this time of month that makes our jeans feel that bit tighter and well just that feeling fat stage.  The best explanation for this I found was from Heron on Yahoo Answers who replied:

This happens to a lot of women. The prostaglandins (substances that cause the muscle contractions that push out the menstrual blood) can cause intestinal spasms. This can cause bloating, flatulence, and an increased number of bowel movements.

So I just wanted to share this with everyone who also has this problem.  We are not alone!

The remedy to this?  Anti gas tablets.  So amongst your busy schedule try and remember to put this on your shopping list and remember to take them. 

Unless, we look at it a little differently and don't see this as a problem at all and more a way to get our men back for there constant burbing at the dinner table and farting under the covers!
